This is a notice to anyone who is a fan of Laura’s or a follower of hers on Twitter, or mine, or Laura Mennell Fans, and other Twitter handles used by the owner of the Tumblr page dedicated to Laura. This person has accused me of being “hostile” or sending him supposed nasty DMs via Twitter. This post is to deny all of that. I need to post this because this person has never sought to engage in a discussion that didn’t include demands and or orders. He believes that by simply asking him to speak to me via email, direct message on Twitter or through this site in terms of the contact page, methods that do not include “airing the dirty laundry” as it were, are somehow attacking him or being nasty. He has accused me via those direct messages of being angry. He claims that the reason I don’t want that dirty laundry aired publicly is because I don’t want Laura to see how I act, as per his direct message to me via another Twitter account is here in this screenshot:

johntwitterdmscreenshot

He does not understand that this has nothing whatsoever to do with my not wanting Laura to “see what I’m like in private”. It has to do with him wanting to control the message. There was something Laura told him she didn’t want on his Tumblr page, however, he believes that if she says that to him, it applies to me. She has not told me she does not want images here in this gallery. Until she does, he has no right to continue to badmouth me publicly. I will not tolerate it. I have been running these types of fansites since 2006, and with the exception of ONE instance where there was some confusion, I have done so unabated. I have even been asked by one of the people I run a fansite for to be their official site. I will not say who it was because those contacts are private and not for public dissemination. Just as any private communication should be, but due to various things not to do with the personal or anything bad, it was decided that this person wanted to go another route, and that was abandoned. I remain this person’s admirer to this day.

As for what this person in THIS instance did to me in terms of taking to Twitter to say specious things about me, I call that unfair and to have continually tagged Laura in his tweets is not only wrong, but very wrong. This is not about being one up on anyone, as he did when he accused me of being jealous of his page. This in a comment made here on this site. I am not jealous of his page because I have no reason to be. I have no reason to be jealous of his online communications with Laura, however, he seems to think I should be. Having as I said almost been the official site for one of the people I run a fansite for, I’m far, far, far away from being a star stalker or as in other instances a starfucker. While being in communication with Laura via her Facebook and Twitter accounts is wonderful, it does not validate me as a human being. Unlike some who need that, I do not. Life goes on and the world still revolves around the sun. And even when we’ve ironed things out, or so I’ve assumed we’ve ironed things out and gone back to business as usual, this person has behaved like this time, and time and time again. I’ve taken as much as I’m willing to with him, or as much as I should be made to take.

I am deciding what to do with this site. I’ve put a hell of a lot of work into it in terms of the money I’ve paid out for certain assets, as well as the time and effort I’ve put into creating the new layout, graphics and the various pages within this site. Not to mention the time it’s taken to edit the screencaps and other photos already in the gallery. Then the fanlisting I created also hosted here. The thoughts of taking it down is something I do not wish to consider, but then the question is “Should I?” I’m 53 years old, and far, far, far away from being someone interested in the aforementioned starfucking. I have never sought to meet any of the people I have fansites on, and am not so sure I would if I were given that privilege. The one thing that has sustained me throughout many personal losses I’ve had over the past couple of years, has been these websites I run. They have been my solace, and for a very long time I debated whether to take to social media to promote them for this very reason. The interwebs being as they are, many times this is the only way one can create awareness for these sites, which is what I did when I linked these websites to my official Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts to post my updates. I did not expect to encounter this type of stupidity. I had hoped with this person to keep it civil and to keep it personal for no other reason than to avoid the “I’m telling mom” sort of juvenile behaviour this person has engaged in. And by “telling mom” I mean tagging Laura in each and every single one of his posts when he believes “I’ve done bad!” This is not only unprofessional, but also bad form.

For now I’ve blocked him from viewing this website as well as my tweets from his various accounts. I have un-followed his Twitter accounts and blocked his direct messages and tweets, and done the same to him viewing mine. I do not have exclusive squatting rights over Laura, and neither does he. He seems to think he can shoot off at the mouth anytime he pleases and feels totally vindicated for doing it. He somehow does not understand that until Laura tells me directly what she wants in terms of certain images — and by those I mean nudity, of which I do not and would not post those — it is none of his business what I post on this site. He is not the owner of this site. I am. He also has no right to bad mouth me to Twitter and to those who believe he has the high ground. He does not. I am willing to let bygones be bygones, however, I will not be threatened nor preached to. I will accept an apology….and a permanent one, not one that depends on the weather that day. But I was NOT the one who started this. He did. Until I receive that apology via public media, he will not be allowed to view this site and I will never follow him or his various Twitter accounts. There is a right way and a wrong way to do things. And his was definitely the wrong way. I had thought of taking this site to a full domain, but for now I’ll leave it on the subdomain until I decide for sure what I want to do. For now the site will remain in its present form with the requisite updates as they come in terms of Laura’s various television projects both past and present. If anyone wishes to comment, feel free. If you are posting for him, or if he posts from a different IP, it will be posted but know this, I will not tolerate attacks against me. I did not start this, but I sure as hell will end it.

Yours, Dianne (webmaster)

Laura’s latest episode of VAN HELSING for you. My gosh Rebecca is a little vixen. The website Fangs for the Fantasy had this to say about Laura as Rebecca, “Ominous sexy vampire….” I’m in total agreement. I’m still waiting for more of Rebecca and for her story to be told. This episode was directed by Canadian actress Amanda Tapping. Amanda is well known for her ten years on the SciFi series Stargate: SG-1 as Lt. Colonel Samantha Carter. Great to see Amanda moving behind the camera. This episode was very good and the whole ambiance is pretty thick in terms of colour.

I have the screencaps from one of Laura’s Canadian-made movies. In SIGHT UNSEEN Laura plays the part of Chloe Brooks, a bit of a femme fatale who becomes involved in an investigation into a murder. Since this site is not a spoiler free zone or anything of the nature, because the film is over five years old and to me anything that has aired or been released is fair game, but Laura plays a real naughty piece of work. Good acting though on her behalf and that of Kevin McNulty who played the part of a detective investigating Chloe. McNulty is a favourite of mine as he played the part of Mel Ivarson on the CBC drama Arctic Air starring Canadian First Nations actor and activist Adam Beach. I’m still in a bit of a fog as to who did what to who…. I’m going to state, if you’re going to take any screencaps from the site, please give us a link back. Though the screencaps don’t belong to me or to anyone other than the film company, it took some time to record the program, cap, edit and upload. Thank you for your understanding.

I’m so sorry this update is so late. My computer was just dying on me and I knew I would lose everything on it if I didn’t quickly save it. Fortunately I was able to get everything saved and the computer fixed, which is a good thing because when it was fixed they had to wipe it. May I say thank you to the computer gods? My gosh Laura is not a nice one in this show. She looks amazing while doing it though. What a sexy vamp she is.

It appears Syfy has renewed Laura’s series VAN HELSING for a second season, this according to Deadline. Not sure where Laura’s character Rebecca is going to come in there….hopefully in the finale for this season she makes it out, but this is indeed good news.

‘Van Helsing’ Renewed For Second Season By Syfy

Four episodes into Van Helsing‘s freshman run, the new action-horror series has been renewed for a second season by Syfy. Production on the 13-episode second season is expected to begin January 2017. The announcement was made by series producer Nomadic Pictures and distributor Dynamic Television.

“We have a wonderful and terrifying road ahead planned for Vanessa, her allies and her enemies,” said Van Helsing writer/showrunner Neil LaBute. “I think this is a world and a story that can be sustained for many years and I am inspired to do so thanks to Syfy’s obvious trust and commitment in the storytellers, cast and crew.”

After a catastrophic volcano eruption, the last remaining underground vampires rise up through a dark, ash-filled sky to overtake America. Vanessa Van Helsing (Kelly Overton), a descendant of the legendary line of vampire hunters, awakens from a three-year coma to discover that she’s not only immune to the bloodthirsty predators – but also has the ability to make them human again. Van Helsing is a re-imagination of the timeless Dracula brand and stars Overton, Jonathan Scarfe, Christopher Heyerdahl, David Cubitt, Vincent Gale, Rukiya Bernard, Trezzo Mahoro, Aleks Paunovic, Laura Mennell, Tim Guinee and Paul Johansson. Episode 5 of the series’ first season airs tonight.

Van Helsing is produced by Nomadic Pictures, which also serves as the studio, with Syfy as co-producer. Executive producers are Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev from Nomadic Pictures, showrunner/writer LaBute, Simon Barry, Evan Tyler (Industry Works), Dave Brown and Zadoc Angell (Echo Lake Entertainment), as well as Daniel March (Dynamic Television). Dynamic Television is handling the worldwide distribution for the series, excluding first run U.S. television and Canada.

Laura has submitted a collage she created to an auction to benefit The Kidney Foundation of Canada. Other artists who have submitted their artwork are Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson, Bif Naked of the Bare Naked Ladies, and others. Please consider submitting your bid for one of these wonderful pieces for a worthy charity.

I have a promo for you from Laura’s upcoming show TRAVELERS where she plays the part of ADA Peckham. No word yet on whether Laura’s part will be long term, or just a guest starring role, but considering that her other show VAN HELSING is also filmed in Vancouver, we could hope we get the double does of Ms. Mennell. Laura is not in this promo. The show debuts on October 17, 2016 on the Showcase network in Canada. Not sure what sort of distribution deal it has in the States. Enjoy.

Given what one of Laura’s favourite words are, I thought it should be the title of this site. So the official name change is now LUMINOUS :: LAURA MENNELL ONLINE. Laura, this is for you.

There is a show on the Bravo! channel called The Actors Studio with James Lipton. Each week he takes an actor or actress down memory lane into their careers. Some of his alumni have included Gene Hackman, Jane Alexander, Dustin Hoffman, Robert Redford, and many other amazing actors and directors. Before turning the subject over to his students, Lipton runs past them the questionnaire created by the French essayist Bernard Pivot where we learn some of the inner mind of the subject. I asked Laura if she would be willing to do it, and she graciously agreed to take it on. So here are her answers in the bold type. I’ll add my own after hers. So enjoy. And Laura, thank you for your kindness and beautiful heart.

LAURA MENNELL TAKES THE ACTORS STUDIO QUESTIONNAIRE

I love that you want to do these quintessential Actors Studio questions! Such a fantastic idea, Dianne.

1. What is your favorite word?
I really love the word ‘luminous’, the way it slips off the tongue, its so beautifully descriptive in its meaning. But I must say, I use ‘lovely’ far more. In fact… maybe even too often! Coming from me, its one of the best compliments to give someone. Its not necessarily visual, but more of an overall essence of someone and their energy. I thought it was my own thing, until I noticed my mother using it as consistently as I do. It’s strange when you unconsciously pick up little traits from parents without even noticing. Does this mean I’m becoming my mother?!

2. What is your least favorite word?
I don’t have a specific word I loath, but I hate when people use feminine language in a derogatory way. “You throw like a girl” or “You’re such a pussy”… drives me nuts! Especially having little girls hear things like that and feel the repercussions of it, they’re bound to be affected by it. Women aren’t weak and our lady bits go through some pretty heroic moments in life.. child birth being one of them… you gotta be tough for that, right?! And there are so many tough-ass female athletes out there. Most of the time, people don’t mean anything by it and aren’t really thinking about the connotations. Honestly, I think words and the way they’re used, shape the way we think.

3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
Generosity of spirit. Openness. Truthfulness. Vulnerability. All the best artists have those qualities and the best human beings for that matter. Shines through the work of a lot of great performers.

4. What turns you off creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
Abuse. Be it verbal or physical. There’s far too much negativity. Life really can be a beautiful thing. We need to celebrate each other as equals. Regardless of race, gender, economic status… We really are one and should never abuse others. And we also need to stop hurting our planet and the animals inhabiting it. Respect, empathy and mindfulness should be placed in high regard, instead of hierarchy and dominance over others — that really turns me off.

5. What sound or noise do you love?
Cat noises – particularly ones made by my very own Louie. Purring: all the strange and wonderful meows and quirky sounds cats make. The way our furry friends communicate with us can really sooth and entertain all at the same time.

6. What sound or noise do you hate?
Cracking knuckles make me feel a little uneasy and faint. I never get why people do that. It’s bizarre to me. Snapping bones and cartilage totally gross me out.

7. What is your favorite curse word?
Fuck… (sorry Mom, I know you hate it!) it’s just so satisfyingly descriptive. When you are really fucking mad, there’s no better word to spew out, right?!

8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
I love animals so much. Probably being a caretaker at an animal sanctuary of some sort. I’ve been so excited visiting places like Animal Sanctuary in Acton California or this weird but wonderful little Airbnb off Melrose in LA. These places make me so happy and the idea of sharing a safe place and love with animals who’ve been mistreated makes me happy.

9. What profession would you not like to do?
Mathematician. Math was the only subject that made me cry in high school. I hate numbers, I’m much more of a creative and visual person.

10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
He/She would hopefully say something like “Thanks for being you”.

So now, here are mine in a quid-pro-quo:

1. What is your favorite word?
I think the one word that encompasses everything I believe is: Hope. Hope in the goodness that this big old blue marble will keep turning despite stupid humans who want to destroy it.

2. What is your least favorite word?
No. I’ve always hated the word so much. I had it said to me enough in everything I wanted to accomplish, so naturally if someone says it to me, I push back. Just my Leonine nature.

3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
Anything that is positive and nurturing.

4. What turns you off creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
My own ability to procrastinate. I have this stupid side of me that precludes me from getting the things done that need to be done, so therefore I self-sabotage.

5. What sound or noise do you love?
Like Laura, my little baby girl Coco’s meows, sounds of her paws on the carpet as she runs up and down the hallway, even the sound of her scratching in her litterbox, and her “plinking” sounds when she drops a piece of her food on the side of her dish. I also love her snores that usually accompany my partner’s at night when all is still and quiet.

6. What sound or noise do you hate?
The sound of an animal when they’re in stress. My heart just can’t take it when I know an animal is outside alone, at night and their human caregiver has left them out. Also yelling at children. I just cannot stand it when someone thinks they can yell at a child and think it won’t matter. It does.

7. What is your favorite curse word?
I have many, though I’d have to say Laura’s is also mine. The beautiful FUCK! Like Laura, my saying that was always the bone of contention between my mother and me when she was alive. I also have combinations of it depending on the occasion such as “Fuckity fuck, fuck, fuck” or “Fuck-a-doodle”. It’s really a beautiful word. However, if I had my choice, I’d pick all the George Carlin “Seven Words You Can’t Say On Television”.

8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Mountaineer. Director. Screenwriter. I would love to say I’d love to get into something to do with animals, like Laura, but I could never take it if one died under my watch. That would be so soul taking to me as I believe animals are such unique, and precious souls. I love elephants and big cats, and if I wasn’t so scared to lose them, I’d love to have a big cat and elephant sanctuary where any and all big cats and elephants could come to live and be allowed to be who they naturally are.

9. What profession would you not like to do?
I already did it: ACCOUNTING! I had my CPA and hated it with a white hot passion. It’s the most tedious thing I’ve ever done and was so glad to have bid it a fine adios. It’s the most boring job I ever had and would never have it again. I now just stick to my simple household budgets.

10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
“You thought I was a fake? A lot you know……”

So there are my answers. Not too sure if they’re revealing, but there you have it. Again, many thanks to Laura for doing this.
